Why do we ask for so much information before you can download?

OpenRate is open source software, which lives because of the community which grows up around it, and the people who inhabit that community.

The trouble with niche software is that the community is extremely hard to build. The numbers of people interested in software such as OpenRate is a tiny fraction of a percent of all web users, and the percentage of people who are interested incontributing to the community are a fraction of that.

This means that in the end, it's up to us to form the community. We therefore try to get to know the people who show an interest, and form the hub of linking people up together. For this reason, and this reason only, we like to know the name, email address and company profile of the people who have an active interest in the OpenRate software.
